St. Patrick's ESB Staff Credit Union launches new website and telephone service

St. Patrick's ESB Staff Credit Union goes online to offer new and improved services to members and launches a new automated telephone facility.

St. Patrick's Credit Union's President, George O'Driscoll, was on hand to welcome guests at the launch to celebrate the Credit Union's new website and computer system. ESB Chief Executive Padraig McManus was in attendance, as were senior representatives of the Irish League of Credit Unions.

Mr O'Driscoll paid tribute to ESB for their leadership, which has helped the Credit Union to achieve its current success. "Hundreds of people, every week, every year, help us. It is the kind of company and culture the ESB assimilates." He also offered high praise for the trojan work of Progress Computer Systems and a special tribute to the staff of the Credit Union. "The Board recognises the hard work that they do on a daily basis, and we couldn't function without them. They are the face of the Credit Union and it is often challenging for them to work with a voluntary Board of Directors."

Mr O'Driscoll said it was a fantastic year for the Credit Union, which is now working in a new regulatory environment. Staff have also had to take on board the work generated by the SSIA scheme as well as the new computer system. He also praised the agents in the field who couldn't be present at the launch for logistical reasons, but who make a huge contribution on a voluntary basis.

The future for the Credit Union is still more change, Mr O'Driscoll continued, with a new business plan and strategic reviews. The Common Bond needs to be more flexible and adaptable as external factors are changing. "We are where we are largely because of our people," he said. "Our philosophy is: 'It is in giving that we receive.'"

Loan Officer Simon Dunne, who has been one of the driving forces behind the development of the new website, then gave an overview of the system, including the new automated telephone facility. On the website, existing Credit Union members can check balances of their share and loan accounts by using a secure PIN, and download helpful forms and information directly to their own computer screens. New members can also download an application form to get started saving with the Credit Union. And, with the new automated telephone service, members can check their share and loan balances quickly and easily 24 hours a day, or they may stay on the line if they need to talk to a staff member directly.

Padraig McManus, ESB Chief Executive, noted in his presentation that a lot of people have the Credit Union to thank for having helped to educate their children over the years, to help fund home improvements, and to assist with many other personal financial requirements. He paid tribute to the people who had the foresight to set up the Credit Union 25 years ago, and especially people like Sean Malone and Joe Guerin, who have been with the Credit Union since its beginnings and are still there serving on the Board. It was great to see new people joining the Board and the Supervisory Committee, he commented, who still give their time and efforts voluntarily. "It is fantastic to see the Credit Union so strong. Over the years it has served its members well and is a source of pride to ESB. I want to congratulate all of you who have given so much over the years, and especially on your latest developments." Mr McManus then officially declared the service launched.

Samuel Adair of the Waterside Credit Union in Derry, and Vice- President of the Irish League of Credit Unions, spoke of the 40 years of service that St. Patrick's Credit Union had given to its members. "The staff that work here give far beyond what is expected," Mr Adair said. "They are always there for you, and I think this new website will be a fantastic service to its members. You are a shining star in the Credit Union movement."
