Appreciation

Tom Mahon

Tom Mahon loved the ESB. His commitment was second only to the love, support and concern that he showed for the well-being of his wife, Sheila, and his sisters, Brid, Marie and Brenda. As a member of ESB's Electrical Contracting activity and subsequently in the area of Electrical Safety, he gave 110%. He was also a member of the Chief Executive's Safety Committee.

However, Tom didn't really come into his own until his retirement, some 16 years ago. He became actively involved in the HO Pension's Committee, and also looked after the social activities of the Marketing Department's retired staff. He was Honorary Secretary of the Pension's Committee since its inception, and using his very persuasive powers, ensured that the rights of the HO pensioners were always to the fore and looked after. He was a founder member of the Senior Citizen's Parliament, which he took great pride in participating in

Tom also brought his persuasive powers and tenacity to bear in ensuring continuing support for the annual summer outing and Christmas party enjoyed by the Marketing/Supply Clanwilliam retired staff. With the support of his wife Sheila, he always organised a very enjoyable and successful summer outing each year. The meticulous way that Tom and Sheila researched, vetted and organised these outings had to be seen to be believed.

Tom will forever be remembered for his unselfishness in giving of his time and energy for the betterment and enjoyment of his fellow pensioners, despite not being in the best of health. May he rest in peace.
