Galway Retirements Between them they had an amazing 156 years of ESB service! It was indeed a large gathering who joined four Galway Networks staff, John Ryan, Supply Chain and Mike Newell, Gabriel Ryan and Denis O'Dea, all from Networks Projects West at a function to mark their retirement. Gabriel started in ESB in 1964 while Denis and Mike joined in 1967. All three spent most of their careers in Network Projects (or its equivalent pre 2001). They have worked on all aspects of work from NRP to Distribution to HV Transmission lines and delivered all of these projects with success. The level of expertise built up between them means they will be sorely missed in the Projects organisation. While most of their work was in the Galway Branch, they did stints elsewhere, including England and France when required. John Ryan – Gabriel’s ‘older brother’ – joined the company in 1970. John worked mostly in the customer service side of the business–new supplies etc. until a vacancy arose as storekeeper in Supply Chain. John brought all his line expertise to this job and found his true niche. Warm and sincere tributes were paid to all four by Brian Nunan, NPM West and Tom Martin, CSM Midlands and West. There followed a night of stories, food, drink, dancing. They ‘Galway Four’ pictured below following a brilliant night in the Corrib Great Southern Hotel attended by over 250 people from near and far.
