Louis Gillick departs
Louis Gillick was
surrounded by a large
gallery of family and friends
in Natures Way, Head Office, as he
availed of early retirement and bid
farewell to ESB. John Campion,
Executive Director, HR and
Corporate Affair, paid tribute to
Louis’ multifaceted career in ESB.
He described Louis as a man of
many hats including being a social
entrepreneur who gave freely of his
time to help people who are less
fortunate in Irish society.
In more recent years, he acted as
liaison between ESB and charitable
organisations such as Focus Ireland
and TRUST, who cater for the wellbeing
of homeless people. Alice
Leahy, Director, TRUST, was on
hand to thank Louis for his
enthusiastic support.
Also among the many messages
of goodwill received was a note
from Pat Kenny, RTE, recalling their
student days together. John
Campion highlighted Louis’
involvement in social activities for
which he is well-known in ESB. The
milestones were the 1000-mile Pole
Push around Ireland on behalf of
Temple Street Children’s Hospital
and the voyage on the Viking ship
Dyflin to Liverpool to collect part of
the scanner for the hospital. Dr.
Veronica Donoghue, who was also
present, thanked Louis for his work
on behalf of Temple Street
Hospital.
The legendary Kevin Heffernan
made a guest appearance to present
Louis with a Dublin Jersey. The
festivities continued in Scruffy
Murphy’s where Louis’ old friend
and former colleague Jimmy Doyle
provided ‘the music.’
