A LIFE in the week - Ned Peacock
Job Title/Description: General
Operative, ESB Training Centre,
Portlaoise.
What do I like most about
your job?
Making sure that everything is
in order at the Training Centre for all
our visitors. I love meeting the
many visitors who regularly attend
training courses and meetings here
at the centre. No two days here are
the same with such a variety of
activities in progress. One of my
roles is to maintain the training
facilities and make sure that the
premises and grounds are a safe
place for all.
If I wasn't in my current job,
what would I be doing?
Working in a salaried position as
Chairman of Ballyroan GAA Club, Co.
Laois. Laois senior champions 2006
and 2007!
If I had a choice of another
career what would it be?
I have
a great interest in vintage cars. Does
anybody know of a well-paid
career in that line?
What person has influenced you
most?
My own father who
passed away in 1981. It was he who
gave me such a passion for Gaelic
football when playing for his native
Laois and railway cup competitions
for Leinster. He won two Leinster
medals and four Railway Cup
medals during his playing days.
What upsets you most?
Insincere
people and inconsistent referees!
What is your favourite journey
and why?
The trip up the M7 to
Croke Park when Laois are playing.
How do you chill out?
I have
been going to Tenerife twice a year
for the last four years. I find it is a
great place to relax and unwind
and forget about the pressures of
home. I also take to the Golf course
as often as I can manage it.
Which four people, past or
present, would you invite to
dinner?
Roisin Phelan, my
colleague in Portlaoise for her wit
and charm. Brian Whelehan, Offaly
Hurler for genuine GAA
conversation. Pat Shortt to keep
order on proceedings and a halfdecent
Country & Western band.
