Pat Treanor retires Awarm welcome was extended to all at the function to mark the retirement of our friend and colleague Pat Treanor, Manager West Offaly Power and Lough Ree Power. The event took place at the Bloomfield Hotel Mullingar on Friday, April 13th. Many retired colleagues of Pat joined staff from both stations, Power Generation Head Office and ESBI to celebrate Pat’s departure after 36 of years service. Born in Mullabawn, Co. Armagh into a farming family Pat had a lifelong love affair with the GAA and was an ardent follower of his native county. He qualified as a Mechanical Engineer at Queens in 1970 and joined ESB. Much of Pat's career is synonymous with peat stations having spent time in Allenwood, Rhode, Bellacorrick and Shannonbridge. He also spent time in Tarbert. Pat played a very important leadership role in peat however, culminating in the successful development of the two new Peat Stations at Lough Ree and West Offaly, thus ensuring the continued association of ESB with the Midland region. In 1992 Pat was seconded on to the CCR NegotiationTeam working with Ken O'Hara, Bill Flood, John Campion, Bart Moriarty, John Mohan and Pat Broadbin forming the PG negotiating core team in CCR. In addition to this Pat spent a couple of months in Nigeria with John Mohan and Tony Carlyle. Pat moved his family each time with never a sign of stress and always joined the local GAA club - but continued to follow Armagh to games from wherever he lived! Pat Treanor will be remembered for his complete commitment to improving the business, his strong commitment to people- hard but fair and fiercely loyal to the cause. He has innate wisdom and knowledge with great empathy for people at an individual level. This coupled with his own modesty allowed him to guide and direct many people across Power Generation and ESB. He was noted for his calmness, optimism, positive attitude and resilience, which carried him and others through many trying times. A great DIY enthusiast, Pat could be found keeping neighbours’ appliances going long after their life expectancy! Family is hugely important to Pat and with his wife Janie he is now planning to spend more time with their children and grandchildren, travelling and doing the odd bit of DIY as well as looking after his newly acquire pet - an Austin A35! On behalf of ESB, Group Manager Luke Shinnors, thanked Pat for all he had done for ESB and its staff in the course of his career and wished him, Janie and family well for the future. |
