ESB Launches Connacht Provincial ESB Minor Championships The connacht Council of the GAA and ESB officially launched the Connacht ESB Minor Football Championships for 2007 on Tuesday, 17th April. ESB became the first ever sponsor of the Minor Championships in 2005 and todays launch marks the beginning of the Provincial series. The launch was attended by representatives of ESB and the Connacht Council, GAA along with well known figures from GAA circles in the province. Speaking at the launch, ESB Chief Executive, Padraig McManus praised the work of all those involved in GAA for the contribution they make to our National Development. Mr McManus said the ESB sponsorship is a driver for the development of the game at Provincial level, "Our sponsorship of the Minor Hurling and Football Championships is intended to act as a support for sporting development at underage level, it fits with our other sponsorships in Hockey and Athletics. Both the GAA and ESB have been involved with the community across the country and have supported the development of Ireland over the past number of decades." The official launch of the 2007 Provincial Minor Championships is designed to heighten awareness around Minor Hurling and Football. The Minor Championships are seen by many as a key developmental stage in maintaining the high standard of competition in the Senior Championships. The ESB Minor Championships entails more than 75 inter-county games of football and hurling with 1000's of under 18 players participating. |
