Demolition of Lanesboro' Unit 3

The demolition of Unit 3 Boiler House in Lanesboro' took place on the morning of Saturday 14th April. The boiler house is the third structure in the station to be demolished using controlled explosions.

The demolition of the station features on a BBC documentary series 'Demolition' which has been running on a primetime slot on Wednesday evenings on BBC1.

The morning was ideal for the demolition with little wind and a bright clear day. Robinson & Birdsell, the approved contractors had primed the structure and completed cutting works prior to the explosions that took place shortly after 10 o'clock in the morning. Boiler houses 1 and 2 having been successfully demolished earlier meant that the blast at Unit 3 was louder and stopped a number of boats on Lough Ree in their tracks.

The demolition continues with the blending bunkers, the next structures to be removed.
