Fundraising at the Connemara Marathon for Irish Guide Dogs Agroup of ladies from NCCC and Debtors in Wilton joined forces with their retired colleague Cyril Morley to walk in the 5th Connemara International Marathon to raise funds for Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. The group were part of over 3600 entrants in this year’s event which took place on Sunday 6th April. Weather conditions on the day, high winds and heavy hail showers added to the challenging course through the mountain wilderness of Galway, taking in Killary Lough, Leenane Village and Maam Cross. The spectacular scenery and peaceful setting provided a striking alternative to the usual marathon routes, through major city streets – only the sheep to interrupt the reverie. The half marathon course was completed by Cyril Morley, Norma Murphy, Joan O’Leary, Dara Corcoran and Audrey Scott all with improved times since last year. Carmel Geaney managed the full marathon distance finishing in 3rd place of 26 walkers, again with an improved time on last year. An enjoyable if exhausting event which provided a healthy option for socialising and also raise funds for an association based locally. Congratulations to all. |
