Editors letter Hello and
Welcome This has been a most rewarding and unusual month, particularly for any of us who had the opportunity to become part of the wonderful Teshie School Project. The majority of the ESB volunteers who headed out to Accra in Ghana on Sunday, April 13th had no experience of working in this environment. What was amazing, however, is the speed at which they got ‘dug in’ to the mammoth tasks they faced and the momentum that was maintained for the two weeks. The group set themselves a high target – to completely wire and connect five buildings, as well as to prepare and paint those same buildings internally and externally. Teshie School never had electricity, as electrical equipment and materials would not have been that easily accessible. Innovation was the order of the fortnight and the combination of different personalities, men and women, coming together to make this happen, was a sight to behold. It makes you think that we could do more of this voluntary work, if the opportunity arose. We have the people, we have the skills and, more importantly, we have the will. A wonderful bunch of people and the experience of a lifetime. There is lots happening at home too, as you can see from this edition. We cover some major programmes taking place in two of our power stations – Aghada and Moneypoint – while our ESBI colleagues have a huge variety of news for us this month. If you haven’t completed your Readers’ Survey, which was included in last month’s EM (or you can complete it on our website), please do so now. As well as giving us your ideas, you will be contributing to the wonderful work of ElectricAid. |
