ESB Power Challenge 2008

Power challenge 2008 took place in March amidst another year of good weather – a lovely welcome for the participants in Killarney. 29 teams from ESBI (including Uch and Rousch in Pakistan, Amorebieta in the Basque Region, Corby in the UK and Coolkeeragh in Derry), ESB Networks, ESB Power Generation and ESB Customer Supply & Group Services, all took part in this year's event.

Guests at this year included Pat O'Doherty, Executive Director ESB Power Generation, Tony Calligy, Uch, Ian Whitehead, Rousch, together with ESB Board Members, Tony Merriman and John Coleman.

The closing event and prize giving ceremony took place at the Malton Hotel where the organisers thanked the Civil Defence, Cappanalea Activity Centre and Killarney National Park. Of course, without the help of John Claffey of An Oige Hostel and Muckross House Restaurant the teams could not keep going! A team from ESBI once again took the overall prize followed extremely closely by Tarbert.

The song contest was won by the Amorebieta team. Best Marshals prize went to Liam Deasy and Dan Lucey who did so much on the ground to make this event happen.

Pat O'Doherty paid tribute to everyone involved including the committee of Gerry Whelan, Mick O'Connor, Paul Newe, Sean Brophy, Joyce Farrell, Dave Walshe, Marguerite Sayers and Brendan O'Connor.

So much effort, so little strength!
