Editors letter Hello and
Welcome Charity groups throughout the country have noted that it has become more difficult to raise much needed funds. We can only presume this situation will possibly deteriorate rather than improve in the short to medium term. It is encouraging to see, therefore, the many innovative efforts being made throughout the company by our colleagues to raise monies for a wide range of charitable organisations. Some of these require little effort while others such as the Fashion Show organised by the staff at NCCC take a bit more input and planning. This only proves, however, that with putting our heads together we can come up with terrific ideas, as well as have a lot of fun at the event itself. A large number of these initiatives involve getting together with outside bodies and this also strengthens our links with the wider community. The scale of some of these initiatives is truly amazing and you have to acknowledge the effort of say doing a walk in India or helping build a house or school in Africa. These coupled with efforts nearer to home, such as sponsored walks or coffee mornings can bring in unbelievably large sums of money. Please keep letting us know of your efforts, it will encourage others to do likewise. I'm sure if we could track all of the monies from all of the events organised by our staff for charities in any one year we would be truly amazed. Letters to the Editor I was delighted to see the news item that ESB are sponsoring the Feis Ceoil. The Feis Ceoil has been part of Irish Culture for 112 years to date and has always had very high standards which young musicians had to attain before competitions. It was part of our childhood and our own children and their teachers in turn take the Feis Ceoil very seriously indeed. Congratulations to all in ESB who made this decision. My father, the late Arthur Lawlor, was
an engineer with ESB until 1986. He spent
time in Saudi Arabia in the 70's with ESBI
and during that time he wrote a number
of poems. EM will publish an extract from Arthur Lawlor's poetry in the next issue. Ed. |
