Retirement of Dave McDonough After more than 40 years of dedicated service to ESB, Dave retired on VS at the end of March. Remarkably, he left at the bright young age of 55, having served the organisation as man and boy, though some might question the man bit as he is still very much a boy at heart. Dave joined as an apprentice in Fleet St. in 1965 at the tender age of 15. His talent was spotted early on when he was selected for the Technician (Technical Assistant) course. After 15 years in Network Operations in Fleet Street, he moved to IT Services in 1986 to work in software development. Ten years later took charge of PC support area, including the Help Desk, as it was then known. In late 2000, he moved to Procurement, Shared Service, where he has developed a well-earned reputation as a skilful negotiator. All areas of the company have benefited from his ability to swing a good deal, which was always done with style and humour. He has been a great ambassador for ESB and will be a hard act to follow. Dave will be missed by his many friends and colleagues who wish him and his wife Aine many years of health and happiness. |
