The I.T. Sligo Apprentice Soccer Competition

The I.T. Sligo Apprentice Soccer Competition final was held recently. Over the last 5 years we have had many ESB apprentices who have supported and taken part in the competition. The ESB apprentices/employees, this time in particular, have been really supportive with a few excellent players taking part. This competition will see us reaching a milestone in financial terms (if things go according to plan). We will have raised over €50,000, which goes to a number of chosen charities. The figure currently stands at over €48,000, so we are confident of exceeding €50,000.

Preceding the final, we will have an I.T. Sligo staff vs. apprentice match. The I.T. Sligo Staff team have turned out three times each year for the past five years. We set up the I.T. Sligo Apprentice Soccer Competition over 5 years ago and it was put in place to provide some positive extra curricular activity for the apprentices while they are attending I.T. Sligo on their 10/11- week block release courses

We have managed to raise a team of approx 16 from each class of 32, so the competition has given a chance to approximately 120 players during every block to play. The competition has been running now for over 5 years, so the numbers who have participated have now reached almost 2000.
