A LIFE in the week - Gerard Keeley
Job Title/Description: Safety
Officer, Lee Stations, Co Cork.
What do you like most about
your job?
I like the wide variety of
tasks especially with safety
constantly changing it brings
new ideas to implement in the
station. There are also
numerous opportunities to
further develop. I am currently
Chairman of the Partnership
group, Social Committee, ITDP
(Individual Training & Develop.)
Co-ordinator and I am involved
in other roles throughout the
station. I am very fortunate to
work with a wonderful group of
people at Lee Stations.
If you weren’t in your current job
what would you be doing?
I would probably be a
Professional Soccer Coach or
employed with the Fire Brigade.
If you had a choice of another
career what would it be?
I
have played soccer at a high
level and I currently hold a
number of FAI coaching badges. I train goalkeepers in soccer
clubs in Cork City so as I say it
would have to be a professional
soccer coach.
What person has influenced you
most?
My wife Audrey and
my late father Denis.
What upsets you most?
Ignorant people and being
surrounded by Cork fans when the
Dubs are beaten.
What is your favourite journey
and why?
I have travelled to
numerous countries with my wife
and two sons but it would have
to be a visit to the Nou Camp
Stadium in Barcalona while
holidaying in Salou.
How do you chill out?
Going to
the gym or a few pints.
Which four people, past or
present, would you invite to
dinner?
Muhammad Ali, Pele,
Steven Segal or Eamonn Dunphy. I
included a non-sportsman just in
case Eamonn got on my nerves
and after dinner Steven Segal
could sort him out. |
