Ploughing championships 2007

Europe's largest argi-business event

ESB NETWORKS
The Ploughing Championships is by far and away the farming event of the year. It has over 65 acres of exhibits and costs €2 million to stage.

The 2007 event was held in Annaharvey Farm & Equestrian Centre, Tullamore. It attracted in excess of 165,000 visitors to view a comprehensive showcase of products and services covering all aspects of agricultural and many ancillary industries. More than 300 competitors 'turned the sod' with the hope of winning a national final and qualifying for next year's World Ploughing Championships in Austria.

Under the watchful eyes of Michael Moloney, Area Manager, Joe Lacomber, Customer Services Supervisor, and Kevin Scally, Construction Supervisor, the outdoor network display was superb.

In the marquee staff were kept busy providing information to customers and dealing with safety, technical, customer service and business issues. It is a key forum for meeting landowners providing ESB Networks with a great opportunity to foster and enhance its existing good relationship with the farming community.

Amongst the thousands of spectators who viewed the outdoor displays were leaders from the major farming organisations and representatives from the HSA. The ESB Networks team from Tullamore consisted of Christy Corroon, Colm Condron, JJ Guinan and Gerard Lydon on PA. They demonstrated live-line working several times each day, showcasing the important work carried out by ESB Networks' crews on a daily basis in all parts of the country.

Commenting on the event, Jerry O'Sullivan, Head of ESB Network Services, emphasised the importance of our participation in this event and praised the involvement of staff. "The Ploughing Championship remains a critical event for ESB Networks, providing us with the opportunity to influence key stakeholders and create enhanced awareness of electrical safety. This year we placed particular emphasis on highlighting our much improved levels of customer service delivery as well as showing ESB Networks as a proactive and progressive organisation.

The co-operation of the rural community with ESB Networks has played a pivotal role allowing the Irish electricity network to operate and grow. So, we greatly value the opportunity to interact with some of our most important customers and stakeholders. Special thanks to Mary Ambrose and all those who organised the event and manned the stands for your contribution to the success of the event."
