Lanesboro Retired Staff and Pensioners Association

A very successful meeting of the Lanesboro Retired Staff and Pensioners Association was held in Lough Ree Arms, Lanesboro, in September. The meeting was addressed by Mary Toher, Community Education Facilitator with Co. Longford VEC Adult Education Services, who spoke on issues of interest to retired people with the emphasis on forming groups to initiate pastimes for the winter months.

As a result of the meeting, three different projects were started with three of the association's members acting as coordinators.

The first project will compile a history of ESB in Lanesboro, with the intention of publishing a CD or a book. Patsy Fallon will act as coordinator of this project group.

The second group, led by Goretta Kenny, is to set up Yoga classes.

The third project involves tuition in digital camera photography, with Des Watts being the group leader here.

The courses will be under the guidance of Mary Toher and will be free-of-charge to association members. Anyone interested in joining the projects should give their names to the three leaders.

Work has commenced on the erection of the new Sports and Social Centre and a full report will be issued at a later date.

We are taking bookings for our Christmas party on 8th December in the Great Northern Hotel. You can forward names and money to any committee member before or during our monthly meeting on 21st November.

The November meeting will be addressed by Ailish Redmond from Age and Opportunity and it will be held in the Lough Ree Arms on Wednesday 21st November at 2.30pm.
