Michael Andrews - man of steel raises funds for Simon Michael andrews left Civil Works Department on early retirement 24 years ago and is still going strong. Fresh from his impressive performance of five hours 16 minutes on the 30k walk in Sligo this year, Michael took on one of the toughest challenges in Ireland, the coast-to-coast walk from Dublin to Newport in Mayo. The coast to coast walk takes place each September to raise funds for the Simon Community. The walk distance is 185 miles, over nine days – a full week including both weekends. Essentially, walkers have to complete the equivalent of seven full marathons in nine days. A total of €25,000 was raised this year after all costs were paid. Anyone interested in taking on this challenge next year should log on to www.fourflannerys.com or contact the Simon Community on www.dubsimon.ie. |
