A meeting of the British and Irish Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (BIAPWS) was held in Dublin on Thursday 2nd October last.

BIAPWS provided speakers for a Power Plant Chemistry seminar organised by Chemistry, Asset Technology in ESB Head Offi ce on the following day.

This was the fi rst meeting in the history of the Association to be held in Ireland. The BIAPWS is associated with the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS). It is an International non-profit association of National organizations concerned with the properties of water and steam, particularly thermophysical properties and other aspects of high-temperature steam, water and aqueous mixtures.

These are relevant to thermal power cycles and other industrial applications. Current member countries are Argentina and Brazil, Britain and Ireland, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Russia, and the United States, plus Associate Member Switzerland.BIAPWS acts as a forum for current issues, research and promotion of knowledge in the properties of water and steam in the power industry.
