ITS women make it a double triumph

The women of ITS playing as Sweden made it a double SPORTSCO 5-A-Side World Cup triumph when they won the ladies competition on Saturday 15th October 2005. Sweden emerged for Group A only on goal difference having played a tense 2-2 draw with Italy (ESBI 1) and having hammered Spain (Nat. Grid 1) by a clear seven goals. They had a whopping 12-1 win in the Semi-Final over Tibet (Networks Projects East).

Meanwhile in Group B, El Salvador (ESBI 2) were lording it over Congo (ESBIE) 5-0 and Tibet (Networks Projects East) 7-1. But in the Semi-Final a single goal was enough to see them through in a very lively match against Italy. The final saw a comfortable win (5-1) by Sweden over El Salvador with Catriona O'Boyle (Golden Boot winner) stopping everything at centre-half and with her upfield forays causing consternation in the El Salvador defence.

She was ably assisted by all her team-mates Shauna Brady (captain), Niamh O'Sullivan, Jeanette Lowe, Ciara Murphy and Marie Collins. Italy (ESBI 1) won the 3rd place playoff on penalties and Spain (Nat. Grid 1) won a lively 5th place playoff match.
