ESBI wins contract in Vietnam ESBI has won a €2.9 million contract to act as owner's engineer for the Stage II of the 600MW Hai Phong coal-fired power station in Vietnam. The 600MW power plant is located in the Thuy Nguyen district of Hai Phong city, about 80 miles from Hanoi. The Hai Phong power station is owned by the Hai Phong Joint Stock Company, comprised of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the Vietnam Coal Corporation and Vietnam Insurance Corporation. This latest contract adds to ESBI's longstanding presence in Vietnam. The contract, signed last week, is a significant win for ESBI. The successful tender competed against stiff competition from rivals such as Fichtner, Mott McDonald and Electrowatt Ekono. ESBI will act as sub-consultant to the Institute of Energy, a subsidiary of EVN, providing owner's engineering services. The services provided will include design review, construction and erection supervision and commissioning of the power plant. Other areas of ESBI's involvement include technology transfer and factory tests. ESBI have won this project in association with ISPE of Romania. ISPE are a consultancy group with extensive experience in Coal Fired Power Plants and a joint ESBI / ISPE team will be based at Hai Phong for the duration of the project. The plant comprises two 300 MW units to be commissioned in late 2008 and early 2009. ESBI has previously been engaged in Vietnam on other power station projects such as Phy My 2, Pha Lai, Ba Ria and Phu My 4. |
