The Major Inspection on CG15 and Medium Inspection on ST16 commenced on 2nd August and 9th August respectively. Similar to CG14's recent inspection, the CG15 inspection is a 33,000 equivalent operating hour inspection. This is the most significant type of planned inspection on this type of unit. The gas turbine scope of work includes a complete disassembly of the unit, rotor removal and destacking on site. The generator rotor has also been removed for inspection and the rotor has been dispatched to OEM works for 'J Strap' replacement. Unfortunately due to significant erosion damage in the low pressure (LP) module, the ST16 outage will overrun by approximately 6 weeks while necessary repairs are carried out. This presents its own set of challenges in terms of site logistics and planning given that Unit 1 is due to commence its major inspection on 30th September. This unprecedented level of overhaul work in Poolbeg CCGT will support continued high availability levels up to the next major inspections currently scheduled for 2010. |
