		UCD presentation of Safety Diplomas and Certificates to ESB participants On Saturday 7th October, in the O'Reilly Hall. UCD Campus, Belfield, 25 ESB participants received qualifications in Safety and Health at Work. John Shine, Executive Director, ESB Networks, attended the event to personally congratulate each of the successful participants from many parts of the ESB organisation. From ESB Networks there were 14 recipients of the Certificate and also three staff received the UCD Diploma in Safety and Health at Work. The Diploma and Certificate was also awarded to managers and staff from ESB Power Generation, ESB Telecoms, IT Services and Shared Services. This is the eighth year of the dedicated Certificate programme which is conducted by Dr. Anne Drummond and her staff at UCD for ESB participants. This course has resulted in over 400 successful qualifications, along with other one-year courses at regional colleges. Over the last decade, several ESB recipients have progressed to the UCD Diploma and Degree qualification in Safety and Health at Work. John Shine expressed his admiration for the amount of individual effort with participants attending lectures, study work, completing projects and research, resulting in a steady improvement of the safety culture within the ESB organisation. John said he was very proud to meet everyone on the day, and to see how they are applying best practice to increase safety awareness within ESB business units and thereby assist locally to ensure that staff, contractors and the public are safer.
