It was one of the many events which took place during Positive Ageing Week which was coordinated by Age Action Ireland and sponsored by ESB Customer Supply. The aim of the conference was to debate the rights and entitlements of older people and to identify the critical issues and priorities for action to improve the quality of life of older people. Participants included older people's groups, statutory, voluntary and private service providers, policy makers, researchers and political representatives. Robin Webster, CEO, Age Action chaired the day which was officially opened by Mary Harney TD and Minister for Health and Children. In addition to the conference Positive Ageing Taoiseach's visit to Moneypoint week ran many other events throughout the country. Overall it was a hugely successful week of fun and activity. Over 300 events took place in 22 counties, from coffee mornings and table quizzes, to outings, art exhibitions, cabarets, dance workshops and music sessions. The aim of Positive Ageing Week was to dispel any negativity around ageing by emphasising the positive aspects that ageing holds for older people and their carers in this country. |
