New ESB initiative for children with disabilities

Chief executive Padraig McManus introduced an ESB Educational Bursary Scheme for Children with Disabilities in 2007. This very successful initiative is due to run again this year. The scheme consists of two bursaries up to the value of €2,000 per recipient per year, up to a maximum of four years. This educational bursary supports ESB’s commitment to Equality & Diversity and Corporate Social Responsibility.

The purpose of this new initiative is to help children who have a disability and cannot avail of the present ESB Education Awards Scheme due to CAO/HETAC requirements.

Eligibility criteria

  • The child must be aged 16 years or older.
  • For the purposes of this bursary, the term ‘disability’ means an enduring physical, sensory, mental health or intellectual impairment.
  • The ESB Education Bursary scheme is open to:

  • Eligible dependent children of regular full-time staff and regular part-time staff currently employed in ESB/ESBI or any ESB subsidiary company.
  • Children of retired and deceased staff.
  • Children of staff in receipt of ongoing VSS payments.
  • The bursary is for children who are not in employment and who are primarily dependent on their parents/guardians for support and who are attending an educational institute or who are pursuing some form of further education.
  • A family may be in receipt of only one ESB Education Award or Bursary at any time.
  • Children who are eligible to apply for the ESB Education Awards scheme and who meet the entry conditions specified by HETAC (or equivalent accrediting institution) are not eligible to apply for the ESB Education Bursary.

Bursary applications are now being accepted.
