Sustainability Award Scheme The Sustainability Awards Scheme was launched by John Campion, Executive Director, Sustainability at the recent National Partnership Conference in Portlaoise. In launching the scheme John highlighted the early progress that has been achieved to date on Sustainability. When compared to a 2006 baseline, ESB’s carbon emissions from its generation and networks assets has already reduced by some 20% with a 6% reduction in our internal carbon footprint. Much of this progress has been based around the involvement and efforts of many staff right across the company. The 2010 Sustainability Awards Scheme allows the opportunity to build on this early success and to facilitate involvement from all parts of ESB to engage with our new strategy and vision in a fun yet competitive way. It seeks to appeal to the strong competitive and proud aspects of the ESB persona and to recognise contribution and achievement in a transparent way. While it focuses on continuous improvement in the pursuit of sustainability excellence, it in no way seeks to be an elitist awards scheme. Details of how the scheme will operate were developed by small panel of partnership group members and Sustainability Champions. The scheme will be open to all staff – individuals, teams, partnership groups etc and will accept submissions in the following categories:
Submissions can relate to any aspect of Sustainability including, energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, bio-diversity, recycling, workplace travel plans, local initiatives, communications etc. The adjudication panel will look at different aspects of the submission including
Submissions can be made up until the end of November and the winners will be announced during Sustainability Week in March 2010. |
