Apam Catholic Hospital, Gomoa, Ghana

Apam Hospital is a 110 bed facility - the only hospital serving a total population of 216,000 people in Gomoa, Ghana. 75% of the people are at subsistence level or below; the HIV/AIDS pandemic rages in the area. The information management for the huge patient workload was at the paper and pencil level. ElectricAid answered the call in June 2005.

Sarah Tyther, an Irish volunteer from the University of Limerick made the contact with us. Sarah writes in October 2005:

"ElectricAid provided tremendous support - funding an IT project in Apam worth €5,500. The computers have been purchased and the network is now complete - the project will strengthen the health management system and lead to the improvement of overall efficiency and quality of care delivered to patients. The management have expressed their deep gratitude to ElectricAid, ElectricAid have really made a difference to Apam in allowing the hospital to develop and to improve the standard of care it strives to provide to the poverty-stricken people of Gomoa.
