The road to Damascus

ESB International has a long and successful relationship with the Electricity Ministry in Syria stretching back over a decade. The Syrian electricity sector is divided into two organisations or "Establishments", as they are referred to, one covering Generation and Transmission (PEEGT) and the other covering Distribution (PEDEE). ESBI has been involved in projects in both establishments and is currently overseeing the implementation of a Financial and Accounting System at the Headquarters of both establishments in Damascus, the oldest inhabited city in the world, and in pilot locations at Jandar Power Station and Hama Distribution Company.

The €1.3m Project is been funded by the EU and as part of the training programme a group of 16 Finance, Accounting and IT managers, including the Finance Director of PEDEE visited ESB for a 10 day period. During their stay they were given comprehensive presentations on ESB's FMIS, Materials Management System, Internal Audit and Customer Contact Centre. They also got the opportunity to visit Ardnacrusha where they commented as to how lucky we in Ireland to get such nice rain!
