Lee Stations getting a "lift up" from new technology It's the beginning of the end for scaffolding, at least as far as bridge inspections go. ESB Lee stations pioneered the use of a new piece of equipment giving access to the under side of road bridges and jetties etc without the use of scaffolding. The equipment was used for the first time in Ireland by the Lee Stations, allowing an inspection at Rooves bridge in the Lee Valley to be completed in a fraction of the time traditionally needed for this work. Rooves bridge is the largest of the three road bridges constructed during the building of the station, it is 250 meters long and crosses the lake near Coachford Co. Cork. The repairs on the bridge were completed in four weeks by Pendrich Height Services from Scotland. Without the use of the bridge access unit the work would have to be completed over a two year period. This will provide large savings when planning such work as an alternative to the use of scaffolding. The access unit was imported from Italy by ManLift Hire in Cork and hired to ESB Lee stations for the duration of the job. The attached photos show how versatile this piece of equipment is, it can be deployed in minutes and provide a secure, safe working platform. |
