Atlantic Challenge could bring success for Irish crew At the beginning of September a special Lunch & Learn event took place in ESBIE&FM. The event was titled "The Atlantic Challenge" and was presented by Gearoid Towey, one of Ireland's most successful international rowers. In November Gearoid and his team mate Ciaran Lewis will spend six weeks with their backs facing the Caribbean, planning to become the first Irish crew to win the Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Race. Gearoid spoke about how the team's preparations were going and what it means, both personally and physically, to undertake such a challenge. Not only was the event very enjoyable to attend but it also managed to raise €750 for charity from donations made by staff. The Company generously agreed to add to this to bring the final amount to €1,000. This money will go to the two charities nominated by the team of the Atlantic Challenge - The Irish Cancer Society and Merchants Quay Ireland. A special thanks to everyone who attended the Lunch & Learn as well as those who couldn't make for the event but sent in their donations nevertheless. Lunch & Learns has been running in ESBIE&FM for the past year and consists of a half-hour presentation around an area of the business that is regarded as being important and of interest to staff in general. This is followed by lunch where attendees can meet and talk in a relaxed setting. The speaker kindly remains on after the event and can take further questions and expand or clarify issues for interested parties. | ||||
