A week in the life - Mari Manning

Occupation:
Management Support - NCCC

What is your typical week?
I really don't have a typical week as such because of the variety of work I do. While this is a support role around the Manager and the NCCC Management Team primarily, I am also involved with the Team Leaders and HR, so requirements can vary.

The NCCC has gained a high profile in the industry in the past few years and we have regular requests for visits from within ESB and from foreign companies - liaising with principals and organising events around these visits, as well as general local NCCC Event Management are all part of my responsibility.

I also look after local NCCC/Vendor Relationships; booking Training Workshops with associated travel, catering and accommodation. Resolving customer complaints which are raised to Management as well as compiling NCCC Communication Updates and providing staff with ID cards as required.

If you could change something in your week what would it be?
That would be the commuting time to/from work, particularly during the school term. Now if the NCCC would only consider moving to east Cork that would be fine by me!

How do you chill out?
I meet up with friends mostly at weekends and go walking /shopping /lunch/theatre. I also visit my children as often as I can, as they both work in the UK. In winter I am usually involved in some course or other.

If you had the opportunity to pursue another career, what would you like to do?
Teaching - I taught Information Technology & Literacy Classes in the past and would probably go in that direction, but any career where I would be involved with people would interest me.

What is your biggest personal ambition?
I don't know if I could describe it as the biggest ambition, but I intend to do a little more long-haul travelling - there are so many places I would like to explore such as China and the Far East, the list goes on..
