Jim Maguire Retires Jim maguire retired recently after 37 years' service in ESB and ESB International. To celebrate the occasion, a large gathering of colleagues (past and present) and friends gathered at the retirement presentation in Stephen Court. They were joined by Jim's wife, Mary, his daughter, Catherine and son, Jonathan. Jim's ESB career began in 1969 when, after graduating from UCD with an honours Electrical Engineering degree, he entered the Maintenance and Efficiency Division, Generation Department. From 1970 to 1972, Jim worked in various shift positions in Ferbane and Lanesboro before returning to Head Office and the Design & Development Group, Project Department. Over the next decade he played key roles in a number of ground breaking projects for ESB: the first major gas turbine project in Marina, Poolbeg Unit 3, the proposed nuclear plant and the Moneypoint coal handling facility. During the 1990s, his activities moved very much into overseas consultancy where Jim was quickly in demand and shared his considerable talents and expertise on many projects. In particular, he played a major role as Senior Project Manager for the Indonesia projects: Maura Karang, Tambak Lorok and Cikaring. On these Jim's patience, perseverance and calm demeanour were frequently tested, but never found wanting. Most recently, Jim has been heavily involved with our Irish-based clients and projects: Ringsend, Coolkeeragh, Amorebieta, Aghada and Marchwood. Apart from having excellent technical abilities, Jim has also been a great colleague and will always be remembered by the many who benefited from his support, patience and encouragement over the years and for his cooperative approach to resolving problems. Jim, you will be particularly missed by your colleagues in ESBI and we wish you and Mary many happy and healthy years in the future. |
