Celebrations at SPORTSCO as Aisling Cooney departed for Beijing

Aisling Cooney from ESB Swimming Club reaped some reward from years of dedicated training when the Irish Olympic Council announced on July 10th that she had been selected to represent Ireland at this years Olympic Games in Beijing. Aisling was selected to swim the 100metres back stroke in which event she is the current Irish record holder and was a finalist in the European Championships in Eindhoven. ESB and SPORTSCO sponsored Aisling on her trip to Beijing.

At a special presentation to Aisling in SPORTSCO before her departure for Beijing, Chief Executive Padraig McManus paid tribute to Aisling on her achievements to date and wished her well for the future.

The long term goal for Aisling and her coach Bill McCarthy has been the London Olympics in 2012 and that remains firmly in focus. In the meantime however there are some other pressing things such as Leaving Certificate exams in 2009 and we wish Aisling well in all her endeavours.
