Scouting Ireland Jamboree 2008

Scouting Ireland, in celebrating 100 years of scouting in Ireland, in August 2008, held an international camp at Punchestown National Event Centre and on its 500 acres provided a programme of lively fun and adventure.

In support of this, Brian O’Daly, member of ESB staff in Tralee and retired Commissioner for Sea Scouting and Water Activities, consulted with ESB regarding the use of facilities at Blessington Lakes for boating and was introduced to Peadar Moran, Warden of the Lakes.

Peadar explained his duties as warden, ESB responsibilities in maintaining the environment and ecology of the lakes.

A temporary facility was set up at the Valleymount area, which included a harbour for some 200 boats and attendant safety facilities.

Scouts enjoyed a unique adventure on the water.

In true Scouting tradition nothing was taken but photographs, nothing left but footprints and our gratitude to Peadar Moran for his energy and enthusiasm for the Scouting project.
