A LIFE in the week - Imelda O'Toole
Job Title: Receptionist and
Switchboard Operator
What do you like most about
your job? I love meeting and
greeting people at the front desk. I
also enjoy getting people on the
phone transferred to the correct
extension quickly and efficiently.
If you weren't in your current
job what would you be doing?
Apart from a 12 year gap rearing my
children, I have been in ESB since I
was 18 and I love it. I wouldn't
change it.
Personal ambitions? I would give
my eye teeth to be able to play the
piano!
If you had a choice of another
career what would it be? I would
love to be a florist and create
wonderful flower arrangements for
people and places.
What person has influenced you
most? It has to be two people really.
Firstly my late sister Helen who died
from cancer at just 58. She was a real
lady. She had a smile and listening
ear for everyone. The second is my
late brother Don who died suddenly
at just 52. He was a true gentleman
and treated all his staff and
colleagues at Aer Rianta with respect
and dignity.
What upsets you most? Bad
manners and rudeness. It costs
nothing to be pleasant to each other
and we can all be pleasant if we try.
What is your favourite journey
and why? My journey home on the
bus on a Friday evening looking
forward to the weekend.
How do you chill out? I love
walking along the coast from
Malahide to Portmarnock or having a
coffee in the garden centre in
Malahide while wondering what
plants to buy.
Which four people, past or
present, would you invite to
dinner? Firstly, Hugh Grant. He
could charm me with his twinkly
eyes and gorgeous smile. Secondly,
Mother Theresa, I would love to hear
all about her great work. My third
choice would be John O'Shea of
GOAL- such a tireless worker and
campaigner. Last but by no means
least, Pierce Brosnan- great looks
and loads of money. I wouldn't
mind being stranded alone with him
on a private Island! Could I have all
of Il Divo as well to serenade me
while I'm having this dinner?
