24th Annual Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle The 24th annual Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle took place on Saturday, July 7th with over 1,000 cyclists taking part in what is Kerry's largest fund raising event. Both Chief Executive, Padraig McManus, and Chairman, Tadhg O'Donoghue, joined a small number of ESB staff, mainly from the south west area in the cycle. The cycle which departed Killarney at 8.00am on the morning of the 7th, saw cyclists of all abilities take part. The charities nominated for the 2007 event were Enable Ireland Kerry Services which provides a full range of services to children and young adults from physical disabilities; the Kerry Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland which supports people with Down Syndrome and their families; the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team which was formed in 1966 on a voluntary basis to provide essential rescue services in Cork and Kerry covering 15 of Ireland's highest peaks and Skellig Stars Special Olympics Club which offers athletics training to children and adults with a learning disability. The cycle took in the towns of Killarney, Killorglin, Cahirciveen, Waterville and Kenmare before returning to Killarney. The two official stops for the participants were located in Cahirciveen and Kenmare. ESB Chairman Tadhg O'Donoghue, this year's Kerryman of the Year, joined Chief Executive, Padraig McManus, at the commencement of the race but Padraig went on to complete the full 112 miles. |
