ESB Partnership strategy

The last review of Partnership in ESB took place in 2002. Since then we have seen a lot of changes both within ESB and the market place in which we operate.

The ESB Partnership model has provided the company with a vehicle for handling major change during this time of considerable upheaval in the electricity market.

It has ensured that strong and lasting relationships have developed between management, unions and staff at all levels throughout the company. This provides a large degree of certainty and stability about how we now do business and how we can continue to work together into the future to resolve the current issues and new ones that will inevitably arise.

Over the last six months Group Partnership in the Corporate Centre has been working to update the ESB Partnership Strategy. The objective of this review is to develop the actions we all need to 'Re-position partnership from being something we do to be the way we do things.'

Following a period of research and review by Group Partnership the process of updating the strategy has progressed to its most important stage - consulting with the many stakeholders involved in Partnership throughout ESB.

A key stage of this consultation process involved our 37 local partnership groups from the Business Units. Two workshops were held recently and the Chairperson and Secretary of each local group were invited to attend. The purpose of these workshops was to facilitate input and feedback from this key group of implementors on the proposed new strategy.

These workshops took place in Tullamore and Athlone. They were made possible by external facilitator, Collette Devlin. They also included a presentation by Professor Bill Roche a leading expert on Partnership who spoke about current Partnership developments nationally and internationally.

The workshops were well attended and valuable input was obtained. The next stage is to consult with the Executive Directors and the Group of Unions before completing the strategy which will be launched at the annual ESB National Partnership Conference which takes place on September 20th.
