A week in the life - Rory Doyle
Occupation:
Day Worker,
Turlough Hill and Liffey Stations
What is your typical week?
They say variety is the spice of life
and thankfully, I’ve plenty of
variety, with no two weeks being
the same. My week varies greatly
depending on what work is
planned and who is present.
The scope of the job is very
broad, an example of some of my
duties within any week being:
fork-lift and crane driving,
collection/ delivery of items
outside of the station; working as
Relief store keeper, assisting
Electrical and Mechanical
maintenance, cleaning duties, etc.
While I’m largely based in
Turlough Hill, my job also sees me
working in the other Liffey Hydro
stations when necessary.
If you could change something
in your week what would it be?
Like many, I wouldn’t be averse to
having a few more hours in the
day, there being so many things I’d
like to do and they all take time.
How do you chill out?
Aside from time spent with my
family, quality time for me is
when I’m a part-time DJ and
preparing music trivia quizzes for
charity.
If you had the opportunity to
pursue another career, what
would you like to do?
Funny you should mention that.
I’m currently seeking to do an
adult E/I apprenticeship and am
hoping to do this within the
station.
What is your biggest personal
ambition?
To win the Intermediate Category
Trophy with Bray Rowing Club.
