Clare Boats in Sri Lanka

The above picture shows one of two boats purchased by the staff of Moneypoint ESB Generating Station in Kilrush, Co. Clare. The two boats cost over €6000 and were recently manufactured in Sri Lanka and donated to local families who suffered during the Christmas 2004 Tsunami, which wreaked havoc across Southern Asia. The boats came fully equipped with safety equipment, engines and fishing nets and were manufactured to the highest safety standards, as verified by Lloyds Insurance of London.

In the immediate aftermath of the tsunami, the staff of ESB Moneypoint collected over €6000 in order to aid the victims. Later it was decided by the ESB staff to donate the money to the Irish-Sri Lanka Trust Fund, which had been set up by a number of Sri Lankans living and working in Ireland. The aim of the charity was to provide safe boats, which would provide a living to local communities, and now two fishing boats of Sri Lanka proudly bear the names ESB Moneypoint and ESB Co. Clare. For further information on this project, visit the charity"s website at http://www.irishsrilankatrustfund.org/
