Hello and Welcome
to the September edition of EM. With Autumn just settling in, we have whether we like it or not, to accept the fact that Christmas is just around the corner!

With this in mind we are profiling our annual competition for ESB's Christmas card in this issue. As the process of getting the entries in, choosing a winner and getting the cards printed by the end of November is lengthy, we want to give you the longest possible time to take your winning shot! This year we have bowed to the growing interest in photography, particularly digital, and as our staff photography in EM has proved so popular and growing by the month we thought we'd open the competition this year to both children and adults with photographic images instead of the traditional art competition.

We have decided on four themes from which you can choose but this year we are giving you the added opportunity to help the people of the Third World. We plan to print and sell a number of Christmas cards around the various ESB locations throughout the country, the proceeds of which will go to ESB's charity, ElectricAid. So as well as having your winning image portrayed on a card, you will also be helping the less fortunate throughout the world in far off locations where ElectricAid has made a real difference, as well as here in Ireland. Nothing could be easier, so get working today and send us in your entry/entries by the date shown in our feature.

Our recent survey highlighted the fact that a number of our readers felt we were too Dublin based. This is something we continually try to avoid but it is up to you, our colleagues from around the country, to let us know or submit articles for inclusion. We are only too happy to hear from you.
